How You Can Get Involved in LUSU
There are lots of ways you can get involved with the work we do at LUSU – making change happen for you and other students.
Here at LUSU, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do without the hard work and dedication of our fabulous student leaders. And there are lots of different ways students can get involved to kick start their leadership journey.
Ways you can Get Involved in Student Leadership
There are lots of opportunities for you to impact your fellow students’ lives and experiences (and your own), and we’ll always encourage you to just go for it.
Academic Reps
As an Academic Rep, you literally represent your peers. It’s your job to receive feedback from students on your course to advocate for them in meetings with lecturers and department heads. Academic Reps make change happen!
Speak to your lecturer or email us at reps@lancaster.ac.uk if you’re interested in campaigning for your fellow students.
You can find out more about Academic Reps here.
Societies & Sports
For each society and club, there is an executive committee that runs the major workings of the group. From planning and finances to social media and communication, there are plenty of ways to get involved as a society or club executive.
At the end of Lent term, and the start of Summer Term, societies run their own informal elections, the perfect opportunity to start making headways in student leadership.
Student Trustees
Student trustees run on LUSU’s trustee board alongside our external trustees and officer trustees, making the big decisions about how LUSU is run during Trustee Board meetings.
You can vote for student trustee roles during some of our election periods – and nominate yourself!
There are always opportunities for you to get stuck into student leadership, and helping your fellow students, here at Lancaster.
So, if you want to get stuck into uni life right away, why not put yourself forward for a position on your JCR, volunteer to be an Academic Rep, or keep an eye out for JCR co-options, society and club elections, or other opportunities later in the year. All of these positions are a great opportunity to start developing your skills and experience before moving on to more senior roles.
Who knows where it will lead you, or where you’ll lead others!
