Your LUSU Sport Rundown
Sport here at LUSU aims to be inclusive, varied, accessible and of course fun!
Sport is a really good way to ensure you have a fulfilling university experience. It’s a great chance to get active, meet new people, and have tons of fun too! There are lots of wellbeing benefits to taking part in sport, and we’re all about encouraging you to have a great experience while you’re in Lancaster.
And there’s always something for everyone. You don’t have to be the best football player ever or a pro at basketball to get stuck in. Sport at Lancaster is for everyone.
Not sure if you’ll like a sport? Don’t even sweat it!
The Turn Up and Play scheme is all about helping you get involved in sport on your own terms. No need to worry about the commitment; all you need to do is turn up… and play. Whether you’re trying a completely new sport, or you're using uni as your chance to re-spark an old sport flame, it’s the perfect way to give it a go.

Turn Up and Play
If competitive sport is right up your street, then there are lots of opportunities for you to join clubs competing at different levels.
Competitive Sport
College Sports
College Sport is where the sport offer becomes truly competitive and encompasses the highest level of on campus sporting competition. Teams train regularly with a clear goal of excelling in League & Knockout competitions along with the ability to qualify for a place in Roses, either as a team or as part of the college select setup.
Intramural Sport
This level of activity is designed to offer you a place to regularly engage in sport at a level that works for you! Here, you can develop your skills and get stuck into some pressure free competition. It includes activities such as basketball, football, netball, tennis, squash, hockey 5s and touch rugby.
British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS)
Our most competitive members of our SU Sport Clubs have an opportunity to compete in the national BUCS leagues and competitions.
Roses
And of course, the big one. The sports event of all sports events: Roses.
A years old sequel to a historic rivalry, Roses is the biggest Inter-Varsity tournament in Europe and takes place between Lancaster University and York University.
A weekend full of sports, cheers, screaming, and lots, lots (seriously, a lot) of Lancaster wins, everybody comes together to celebrate the fact that roses are RED!
Watch our Roses Aftermovie!
For a recap of the drama, excitement (and sweet, sweet victory) of our previous home Roses event, check out our Official aftermovie.
We hope you found your thing!
There’s always an opportunity for you to try something new at Lancaster. And if it’s your cup of tea, or even if it’s not, there’s something for everyone here.
