Get Into Competitive Sport at Lancaster
If competitive sport is right up your street, then there are lots of opportunities for you to join clubs competing at different levels.
At Lancaster, you’ll find that sport is in our blood. The rolling countryside and acres of green space allows us plenty of chance to hone our craft and you’ll find a wealth of enthusiasm and experience in every nook and cranny.
Intramural Sport
This level of activity is designed to offer you a place to regularly engage in sport at a level that works for you! Here, you can develop your skills and get stuck into some pressure free competition. It includes activities such as basketball, football, netball, tennis, squash, hockey 5s and touch rugby.
College Sports
All students are assigned to one of Lancaster’s nine colleges – each with their own unique character – which is yours for life (whether you choose to live on campus or not). All of our colleges have a fierce rivalry of intercollegiate sport – and have their own football and netball teams which battle out week after week – as well as other activities such as bar sports.
British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS)
Our most competitive members of our SU Sport Clubs have an opportunity to compete in the national BUCS leagues and competitions. Leagues run from October through till March, and often compete on Wednesdays or Saturdays. Here in Lancaster, BUCS Wednesdays are very much a sporting affair and cues up for one of the biggest nights out of the week – in your student nightclub Sugarhouse.
Roses
One of the highlights of the year for all students, and something all Lancaster athletes strive to be a part of. Roses is the largest inter-varsity sports tournament in Europe. Channelling the age-old rivalry between the Lancashire red rose and the Yorkshire white rose. Find out more about this historic clash, here.
