The Sugarhouse: Welcome to Your Student Nightclub
We know, we know. There’s one question some of you really want to ask: any clubs? The answer is yes! And one of them is run by your very own students’ union (LUSU). How nice :)
Picture the scene: it’s welcome week, and you’re fresh on the Lancaster scene. You might want a night out on the town to celebrate your newest era. And sure, there are some options in town. But (not to brag), the highlight has to be The Sugarhouse run by yours truly.
What is the Sugarhouse?
Established in 1982 and ran by us here at Lancaster University Students’ Union, the Sugarhouse (affectionately known as Sugar) is the biggest nightclub in Lancaster. And it’s just for students! You can find the Sugarhouse in town opposite the good ol’ big Sainsbury’s.
Guest Acts
Sugar regularly hosts plenty of star-studded guest acts, all for you, the student population of Lancaster. Previous guest acts include:
Rudimental
Dick and Dom
LF System
D.O.D
Bastille
Fuse ODG
Marvin Humes
(yes, the JLS guy)
& many more!
Special Nights
The Sugarhouse will often put on special nights for students to celebrate different periods of the academic year and holidays. From Graduation celebrations, Fresher’s Week, Pride, and of course the famous Roses nights, there’s something for everyone at Sugar.
Late Night, Do it Right
Everyone deserves to enjoy their night out while feeling safe.
It doesn’t matter whether that’s in the local pubs, on a big society night, or at The Sugarhouse – we take pride in making sure you have a safe and enjoyable night out.
And to ensure this, we have extra measures at Sugar. This includes anti-spiking devices provided for free with your drink to prevent it from being tampered with, drink testing kits, and staff that are specifically trained to look out for your welfare.
If you ever start to feel unwell or unsafe on a night out at Sugar, whatever the reason, please speak to a member of venue staff or LUSU and we’ll do what we can to help you.
The Sugarbus
A big part of staying safe on a night out is making sure you have a way to get home. The SugarBus is a LUSU run bus, to give you a safe and convenient route back from a big night in the town. This service will be free during Fresher’s week then just £1.65 thereafter.
The SugarBus runs from Wednesday to Friday during term time when Sugar is open, going from Campus > Sugar, and then Sugar > Campus.
(P.S. The SugarBus will even stop at Bowerham on request!)
Societies
If you join any societies at Lancaster, you might find yourself on a night out at Sugar for a social! Societies can apply for Q Jump, which means you get to skip the queue outside and head straight in (cheeky.)
Non-Student Guests
Want to bring a friend that’s not a Lancaster University student? No problem! You just have to fill out the form found on Sugar’s website before 9pm on the night you want to visit.
Not for Profit
LUSU is your Students’ Union, and runs all of it’s services to better support you, our students – and in supporting the Sugarhouse you are already giving back to the student experience in Lancaster. Every single penny of profit from the Sugarhouse (and all commercial entities run by us!) goes straight back into supporting you and your student experience.
And that’s that. If you want to check out what Sugar has got going on, you can take a look at their upcoming events here. Keep your eye out for their exclusive Freshers Week Wristbands, giving you an access pass to the best events in Lancaster.
Sugar has welcomed students through its doors for years, and we can’t wait to start welcoming you too!
