Your Junior Common Rooms (JCRs)

Lancaster University is a collegiate university consisting of nine colleges; each with their own JCR.

But what are they?

Junior Common Rooms (JCRs)

In 1965, Lancaster University Students’ Union was created. How? By two student college committees coming together to form the organisation we all know and love. So of course, we play a key role in bringing your college experience to life!

And Junior Common Room is essentially your college community while at university. You’re part of one of the 9 colleges we have at Lancaster: Bowland, Cartmel, County, Furness, Fylde, Grizedale, Lonsdale, Pendle, and Graduate College.

Each JCR has an exec team, who can provide you with help, advice, and welfare support throughout your time at university. They will also host events and activities to make sure that you get the most out of your college identity and your time here at university.

Students get to elect their next JCR team during Michaelmas Term. Outside of their main Michaelmas term elections, some college JCR exec committee posts become available. If you’re interested in getting more involved with your college life, speak to the current exec team for your college!

Here at the students’ union, we have always played a key role in supporting college life. Whether that’s by supporting your JCR, or running college sport, we empower and co-ordinate the college student experience.
